So I am still pretty bummed about the cats. I have some ideas now but they are percolating, nothing to report as of yet. I know I rag on a lot about cats for someone who writes a blog about her dog; it’s just not something I can let go. As many of you mentioned in your comments yesterday (which were great, by the way) even Petfinder has reported on the massive massiveness of this issue and yet the awareness is still just not there.
Regardless, I promised less complaining today and I want to stay true to my word! So for a little positivity on this rainy Friday, I have two things I’d like to share.
First, if you haven’t been to This One Wild Life lately, you should head over there right now to see what author Kim Clune is cooking up with Amy from Go Pet Friendly. I wasn’t going to share this post because I didn’t want any more competition in the BarkWorld Expo contest than necessary. However, I decided it was just too much fun to keep to myself. Besides, the more people posting and creating videos about pet adoption, the better. One must not be selfish.
I guess.
Secondly… I know I am sick of all the parodies of that dang Carly Rae Jepson song “Call Me Maybe” and I am sure you are as well. There is a point at which these things just stop being funny.
Nevertheless! I stumbled upon a video put together by the New Hampshire SPCA that I thought screamed to be shared. The adorable animals were enough to make me forgive the annoying tune in the background. If the song drives you too crazy, you can always just turn off the sound.
Adopt Me, Baby! (Call Me Maybe Parody) from New Hampshire SPCA on Vimeo.
Happy Friday!

Haha! I love that you highlight our video – even at the expense of competition in winning a trip to BarkWorld! Talk about a class act of unselfish sharing.
And that video is utterly addictive. Wow. I just LOVE it!! Even with the song.
I’m sorry you’re still plagued about the cats. I’m feeling overwhelmed by so many stories these days – Between Lennox, Wicca, puppies being burred alive, and that “no-kill rescue” that’s been taking dog sponsor money and killing dogs anyway – sometimes the same day. As much as I need more sad stories like I need another hole in the head, none of these are about cats. I hardly ever hear about cats unless it’s hoarding. Clearly, these bad things happen to cats too. They just don’t make good news. That’s both disturbing and – selfishly – a releif. I am full-up with the horrors.
You’re definitely forgiven for the overworked sound track. What a great video with happy human and animal faces. The mouse in the teacup sent me over the edge.

What a great video!
Thanks for the Friday lift! Horrible song but great video!
Can’t wait to see what you’re cooking up for the Barkworld competition. Any spoilers?

The video was cute, and I thought the song made it. Loved to see some other critters in there besides just cats and dogs (not that cats and dogs don’t rule of course!).

I’ve not heard the song that much but it’s already irritating me, and I’m a trash teenybopper music kind of girl. Works well for the cause though, so all is forgiven! You are too selfless Ms Tonks! Have a great weekend! X

That song IS really annoying but the video IS cute. I especially liked the horse kissing its own butt and the eyeball licking kitty
. The sheer number of animals is shelters is staggering. I hear you on the cat issue and the lack of coverage. I try to look on the bright side though. Five years ago you didn’t see or hear much (at least positive stuff) about dogs in shelters either. I think awareness of cats is growing so hopefully in another 5 years cats will be in the forefront too. I know it’s not NOW but hopefully things are moving in the right direction.

The video was great, unfortunately I now have that song stuck in my head! (Must listen to the free Metal Hammer tracks that the Mr. brought home – the new Meshuggah is pretty good.)
The Mr. never had cats growing up, so he always thought of himself as more of a dog person. Our first two cats turned him into a cat person, ours all have a good mix of friendliness and independence. I think people just need to meet different cats in person and see how many different types of personalities cats can have. The best way to break a negative stereotype is to meet a cool cat.

Okay, you’re right, very over used song, but I’d rather see adoptable animals than the “abercrombie” boys! Cute video!

Hi Kristine, it doesn’t matter if you go on a rant. We like you and it’s your blog so do whatever makes you feel good. Okay?

Fab video. Hope all those fur babies find a forever home.
Thanks for that video! And please don’t feel bad it was awesome to see some cat-time on a dog blog.

Gah! I read this last night and got distracted by the video on Kim’s site! lol My bet is that you could easily win that contest. Especially if you get The Cat involved somehow.
That video is adorable! But come on, can you really say that you don’t love that one with the Corgi?

Cats need love too! You have such a big heart and, like me, it is difficult sometimes to get through all the tough stuff out there.
BTW, since you like cats you might like to enter to win the book on my blog today, it’s about a cat!

That video is awesome – and I’m so hoping you win the trip to BarkWorld! Since Kim blew up our RV and my sister went and planned her wedding for September, we’re not going to make it to Halifax this summer. I know, Halifax isn’t going anywhere and we’ll make another trip … but I’m still bummed. It would totally make up for it if you won the trip to BarkWorld. I wish I had an in with the judges – I’d pull whatever strings I could find! Good luck and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

That is a major bummer! But I guess your sister’s wedding might be slightly more important than a trip to the Maritimes. Maybe.
Thanks for the good luck wishes! I am going to need them, any chance I thought I had to pull off the trip on my own just blew up (literally) so I am going to have to be even more creative with my entry!
What I don’t understand is why my sister couldn’t have consulted with me on the wedding date – she’s cutting my travel season short! =D Oh no – things are blowing up for you, too? I hope you didn’t catch it from me. I have no doubt you’ll come up with something great – you and Shiva (and the cat) are the bomb!

The first time I heard the song, I thought it was cute and then things went horribly wrong… I cringe when I hear it now. So I didn’t turn the sound on to watch the video, I just couldn’t. Instead I sat here and made cutesy noises at the animals on the screen!

Both videos were great. I LOVE the adoption one though – such a variety of animals they care for. That’s pretty cool. (I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve heard the actually song as opposed to a parody so no worries about setting my teeth on edge. If I hear it again, though I may not be held responsible for my actions…
I feel so overwhelmed at times given the state of things in the animal/animal rescue world. It feels like we’re going backwards. Sometimes we just have to, as you say in your 10 ways post, take a deep breath, collect ourselves and just keep plugging. Hang in there. And I hope you win the trip to BarkWorld.
