31 Everyday Awesome Things

I seem to be in the habit of “borrowing” other people’s ideas lately. The inspiration for this Friday’s list came from Cordelia Calls it Quits. Here’s to freestyling!

1. Opening a brand new package of coffee beans

2. Discovering it’s not as cold outside as I expected

3. Surprise text messages from friends and family

4. Winter boots

5. Hats with giant pom-poms

6. The people kind enough to read this list all the way through.

7. My dog’s circle-wagging tail

8. Soft blankets

9. Hot chocolate after a long walk in the snow

10. Watching a favourite movie for the 569705th time

11. Looking forward to Christmas

12. The purring of a cat

13. Beer

14. Unexpected compliments

15. Sleeping in until the sun comes up

16. Fresh hair-cuts

17. Presenting my dog with a new toy

18. Reading inspirational posts like this one

19. The colour green

20. Crossing everything off my mental “to-do” list. The same day I made said list.

21. Cookies

22. Photos of dogs having a blast together

23. Learning I get one extra day of holidays this year

24. Discovering a new radio station I adore

25. Getting rid of things I don’t need

26. The boss going on a Starbucks run

27. Holiday gift guides

28. Books

29. Knowing I don’t have to convince the husband to get another dog after all because he’s so awesome he could have a list of his own.

30. Orange-scented anything

31. My dog rubbing her face to let me know she’s tired.

And I’m going to add a bonus #32: Realizing I could go on forever and ever and ever.

Tomorrow the Metro Shelter of the SPCA is holding a fundraiser at Chapters. For $15.00 you can get a photo taken of your pet with Santa Claus. Ordinarily I don’t go in for such cheesy stuff, but it’s for such a good cause… I can’t believe I am actually thinking about putting Shiva through the exquisite torture of standing near a stranger in a public book store. Imagine the adorableness of it all! Imagine the look on poor Santa’s face when she tries to eat him! Imagine the blog fodder!

Should we stay or should we go? That is the question.

  1. Awesome list! I like your #32 especially–I feel the same way! Once you start listing, it’s amazing how much you can think of.

  2. This is the kind of thing everyone should do more of! Thank you for this. I love your list, and I vote that you and Shiva should go! I want to see the picture and read about the story that comes from the fun of it all. 🙂

  3. Books. Coming home to a raucous welcome. Opening the coffee bean bag – oh, yes. Chocolate anything. Re-learning to turn off the computer and read more books. Adopting one of my foster dogs – Justus :). A busy but good night at work in the ICU. Wanting to bring in a rescue dog so I can name her “Zenyatta.” Serendipity – twice so far this season, I have bought things when shortly after I was given similar and better things (balls for the dogs, hats for me). Am planning 2011 – one goal is to celebrate more. Thanks for this great entry – yes, get the photo w/Shiva, share it with your thoughts and her reaction. She may surprise you :).

  4. I love your list! I am begging you to take Shiva to have her picture taken with Santa. The story about this event promises to make me laugh for a long time! Please! I am begging you, do it!

  5. My list starts with being blessed with a terrific husband, 3 great sons – and two fantastic daughters in law – one who entertains me with storys of a grandpuppy – and makes my day

  6. I think every now and then making a list like this, makes us appreciate the little things more and let go of unneccessary worrying. There is a guy who lives near us who started a blog for himself called “!000 Awesome Things”. It became so popular he ended up publishing a book. Its a great blog, you might like it ->

  7. Those are great things! I’m likin 17 and 22 best. 🙂 Mom said #9, 13, 21 and 28 would absolutely have to be on her list! 🙂

    Waggin at ya,

  8. Ahhhhhh… propeller tail! Definitely one of my favorites 🙂 Go for the Santa pic I say. I agreed to be the volunteer photographer at a couple of these this year which is seriously goofy but a guaranteed good time. I can’t wait to see what happens 🙂
