Here it is, the moment you have all been waiting for!
Okay, so you probably really don’t care. Too bad! I’m gonna talk about it anyway.
Actually, that is a bald-faced lie. The truth is, I attempted to train this half a year ago. When Shiva’s genius brain didn’t pick it up after thirty seconds I declared it a lost cause. That’s how I roll, apparently. Our next dog better be just as motivated as she is or he is screwed.
But I digress. Shauna’s comment made me think I should attempt the trick again. Shiva thanks you. I thank you. Because it is the cutest trick ever. Even cuter than tilting her head.
I am not quite sure why this took longer than other behaviours to train. Perhaps because she already knows “Wave” and the two are so similar? Even this second successful attempt took a lot longer than most. It was pretty difficult to shape; I had to put something on her nose for the first 6747 times to even get close to an offered paw lift. Which felt like cheating.
There must be a better way to go about this and if you know please share your intelligence in the comments.
After about two weeks of working for a few minutes every day, suddenly she just offered it. Just out of the blue at a moment when I’d actually been training something else. How typical, eh? I was so excited, though, which made Shiva excited. Jackpot!
So that’s it! Thrilling stuff. I bet you’re glad you stuck around. Next I’m thinking of working on a trick Aleksandra captured in one of her posts. It’s probably going to be even more challenging but I think I’m up to the task. After all – unlike agility – tricks I can train while lounging on the couch. That is my kind of activity!
