Tuesday Time-out

I thought it was time for an update on Shiva’s new tug toy.

The widget in the side-bar shows that it has been alive for seventeen whole days. That’s a lot more than I expected. As you can see, she loves it very much.

Unfortunately, Shiva lives with humans who are prone to making mistakes. On the weekend, we screwed up and let her chew this beautiful new toy for more than three seconds. In fact, she had it between her teeth for five. FIVE.

Oops.

We’re obviously going to have to be more vigilant. It is the Ultimate Tug Toy. Not the Ultimate Chew Until It Has Disintegrated Toy. But how am I supposed to take it away from her when she poses like this?

  1. Oh dear Shiva, I wonder whether your teeth are steel now!
However, look at her, she looks so lovely and innocent, it will definitely break my heart if someone takes her favourite toy away from her.

  2. Oh she knows how to work you with that look. Oh my. I would melt. But you just know as soon as you turn your attention away from her, she’d get to work on that pretty toy. Mine do the same thing. They are so innocent till I close the eyes in the back of my head. Then feet come off the Cuz balls, fuzz come out of toys, ropes get shredded. Does Shiva like Nylabones, by the way? Maybe that would help satisfy her need to gnaw. šŸ™‚

  3. Ooh I’m planning a tug post myself. That was a toy we were considering getting, but thought it might not be Emma’s cup of tea. So nice to hear that it’s Shiva’s!

  4. Ha ha! We get suckered in by a similar face, but Morgan just can’t be left alone with anything that contains that alluring squishy white stuff inside. I’ve seen that round one on several blogs and they’ve all had good reviews, so I’m going to have to look for one.

  5. Oh, Shiva’s too darn cute! I’m impressed with how long that tug toy has stayed intact. I know there’s no way it would have made it past day 1 in our house.

  6. I’d have a hard time taking that from Shiva, too!

Have you ever thought of tieing up all your old panty hose inot one big knot for her? Those things are basically indestructable, unless she lights them on fire.

  7. Tat’s the sweetest face of Shiva with his tug toy. I wouldn’t have the heart to take it away from her too. 17 days is a long time to have a tug toy actually.. hehe.. good luck with this one.

  9. I can’t imagine living with a dog who is very rough with their toys. I’m spoiled because I can leave Marge’s toys out without much of a problem. Marge is a pretty gentle chewer – every once in a while she’ll get crazy and start ripping the stuffing out of something, but for the most part, her toys have a long life.

Shiva looks too cute laying in her crate with her tuggie!

  10. Hi Y’all,

Catchin’ up on readin’ as the ice drips off the trees, bushes, house, you name it, outdoors.

My Human keeps my toys in a basket out of my reach. She doles them out and the second my attention is diverted from a toy, it’s gone and back in the basket. Some toys are outside only toys. I have to be honest, when a toy is out and I loose interest it could be days before I want it again.

  11. Shiva’s is doing much better than Lola’s. She put a hole in and tore out all the stuffing and is working on pulling out all the squeakers. But just like Shiva, she loves it so much and I don’t have the heart to take it away from her.

  12. I should check that toy out for Riley. Her toys last about as long as Shiva’s do apparently. Looks like it is still pretty much in one piece! I always have to take Riley’s toys away when she starts chewing them but she would love to play tug with that toy!

  13. I have the same toy! I still have it and have had it for a few months. I have chewed a little of the black part but the circle one is better than the long one with circles on each end cuz its harder to get to my back teeth and chew. They are pretty good though šŸ™‚

  14. Oh five seconds, huh?! Kelly’s toys last about that long too. She shreds everything instantly. I might as well just feed her the money it costs to buy the toy. Once she even shred a can of diet coke into tiny aluminum pieces…and didn’t even cut her mouth in the process!

  15. Heehee…that’s so funny that we both had posts today abouts long-living toys. Of course, for me pawsonally…I say you should never ever take it away from Shiva and lets her chew on it to her heart’s content. And then when she’s chewed it all up, you should get her another one! Okay, I don’t know why my mom just rolled her eyes at me. I think this is a very good solution!

  16. Oh Kristine! So cute! I have been wondering if those are good toys for dogs. I’ve almost bought one many times. I have a doggie client that stays with me that chews on everything (like Shiva). She’s a puppy, but so far I think she has demolished 6 or 7 toys. I’m wondering if a little tear is all there will be. It sure has lasted a long time!

  17. Haha! Thats a great toy! Except that Winnie and Bruno tore it to shreds.. they still are having a blast with the remnants of it– but the red and black fuzz means I have to vaccuum the floors constantly.
Oh well, at least they have fun tugging with each other šŸ™‚

  18. How dare you even think about taking that away from her! Look how much she loves it. Don’t you know all toys become chew toys, or things like remotes, pillows, blankets, storage containers, any thing plastic….BOL
