Thanks, That Was Fun

Remember when I was longing for a snow day? Well, it seems like forever ago, but it finally arrived yesterday afternoon. I tracked the progression of centimetres in our living room window.

I never did hear how many we received in total. But it was enough to force the city to pause for a break.

Last night, despite the blizzard conditions, I tried to take Shiva for our normal walk. It wasn’t all that cold out, so I figured, why not?

This would be why not. When the wind was in our faces, it was not a good time. Even the ultimate jock dog had trouble getting through the drifts. Apparently, walking along un-shovelled sidewalks is a workout for humans and dogs. I’ll have to remember that.

Eventually, I gave up and just told her to run around the backyard. I wasn’t exactly worried about her getting anywhere she shouldn’t. No real zoomies last night. Now do you understand why I like the snow?

This morning, of course, she was ready to get out there and dive in some snow banks! Fortunately, the snow had stopped and the city could get out to plough. Which made for some spectacular piles.

It gave me a chance to play with the “snow” setting on my camera. It also was a good opportunity for Shiva to practice her “stay”.

Of course, The Shivster wasn’t entirely impressed with this development.

Less of that annoying black thing and more walking, please!

But I had fun, which is really all that matters in the end.

So, now that I got my longed-for snow day and amused myself taking pictures, I am done with winter for another year. It can go away any time it pleases.

Like, now, in fact, would be a good time. Really, Winter, you don’t have to hang around if you don’t want. We’re good.

  1. WHOA! Look at all that snow! It looks like Shiva was having a good time except for that whole sitting-in-the-snow-while-mom-takes-a-picture thing.

I wish we would get a snow day, too, so that mom could stay home with me. But I don’t want a blizzard. Cuz I’m tellin ya…it’s no fun to potty in a blizzard. But just big ol’ wet flakes that closed down our town would be PAWSOME! And then spring could come. But I’m kinda thinkin’ that’s not gonna happen this year. Oh, well. I’ll just look at your pictures and pretend.

    Wiggles & Wags,

    • Hahaha! I don’t think an international move is on the agenda. But who knows? And if I am ever in DC you can be sure you’ll see me on your doorstep. I couldn’t pass up the chance to see Lollie in person, after all.

  2. I love the pictures.. we got slammed with our second major storm of the year Tues night… I have had enough storm to last me a long, long time! Is it summer yet?

  3. The snow has been way too crazy this year. The one thing is the snow does make a nice backdrop for photos, and Shiva sure does look like she’s having a great time. But I’m with you…ready for spring to show up any time now. It’s especially had to wait because all the stores have their fun spring stuff out now.

  4. I can’t believe how much snow was falling for that nano-second when you snapped your pictures. I’m glad you got your wish and Shiva got to practice her sit stay. Did her hiney freeze? LOL! That has to be cold sitting on snow without a snow suit! Loved that shot of her climbing the snow mountains. Yesterday I heard that Florida was the only state in the US that had no snow. I’m OK with that. Probably as much as you’re OK with winter being over now that you got your snow day. Good luck with that wish. 🙂

  5. I’m so happy you got your snow day. You’re very serious about your dog walks aren’t you? (and may i say…mad?) I love that pic where shiva is peering over that snow bank. Doesn’t she need a coat at all? Seeing shiva, I feel so silly that I rushed out and bought Georgia coats over our 10degreeC winter!

Oh, if you like, you can send Winter this way, please! It’s so unbearably hot and steamy, it’s almost pointless having a cold shower! 🙂 xox

  6. What lovely snow – and Shiva looks so great in the second day photos. we are finally (IMHO) having a decent winter this January after the warmest December on record. How warm? Hoss came home with a TICK. So, I have frontlined everyone in January – but now, we have nice cold, a small blanket of real, not icy, snow and sunshine. Great combination from this former Northerner.

  7. Wow, you finally found something that can wear Shiva out! Now I only need 18 inches of snow to wear Riley out. 🙂 Looks like Shiva was enjoying the snow during the day time…not so much the stay, but the snow.

    Elyse (and Riley)

  8. At least you got some awesome pictures out of it ! When it is spring again, they are nice to look back to 🙂
Just send the snow over here, Kenzo and Viva can’t get enough of it !

  9. Haha! We feel the same way about Winter. I noticed on Wednesday that it got dark half an hour later than it has been and I jumped for joy. Just keep repeating – spring will come . . . spring will come . . .

  10. I’m glad the you enjoyed your show day. In Ontario, we just got dumped on again with another big storm coming on Saturday! I just want it to go away now, too much shoveling 😦

  11. Wow, I’m so spoiled, I can’t even imagine dealing with snow like that! I much prefer being able to see it on top of the mountains from here. 😉 Although just once I want to take Dante up there and see how he handles it – does that make me a bad mama? 😀
