Lies, Truths, and Things in Between

Speaking of guilt…

Hilary from the excellent Feeling Beachie was super nice and listed ME as a recipient of a cool award. I know, it’s crazy!

There are very specific conditions upon the acceptance of this honour and I have yet to fulfill any of them. Bad, bad blogger. I should give myself a time-out.

First things first. According to the very strict orders – and you know I always follow orders – I need to name five recipients of my own. Honestly? That seems like a lot of work. The people who came up with this obviously had too much time on their hands. But, rules are rules, right? As much as this sucks, here are the five six  seven I came up with:

Love and a Leash

Pawprint City Times

Sara’s Blog

24 Paws of Love

Pup Love

The Dog Park

Something Wagging This Way Comes

Now for the fun part! Winners of this elite award are required to list five facts about themselves. Four are supposed to be fabrications, and one is supposed to be the whole truth and nothing but the truth. However, since I suck at coming up with creative lies, I am going to list four truths and one complete falsehood. It will probably be stunningly obvious which one falls into the latter class but humour me.

1. I have been to England twice, once for a history class. Yet, I have never once visited Stonehenge.

2. When camping with a friend as a teenager, we got lost in the woods. At the time it was a lot more terrifying than it seems now. The only way we found our way out was by crossing a raging river. It’s the closest I have ever come to a near-death experience. My parents still don’t know the story.

3. For years cats petrified me. A good friend had one and every time he walked towards me I would freeze, positive he was about to shred my ankles with his massive claws. I am still not sure how or when I overcame this fear.

4. My favourite childhood memory is of meeting Sharon, Lois, and Bram, a popular Canadian children’s musical trio. At least they were popular when I was a kid. I didn’t miss a single episode of The Elephant Show if I could help it. Lois was my idol.

5. My dream dog is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. They are beautiful, lively, gentle, and agile. Unfortunately, they are also hard to get. If I ever purchase a dog from a breeder, it will be a Toller. Perhaps if I get my name on a waiting list now, this dream will come true before I die.

Now it is your turn! Can you tell which one is the bald-faced lie?

  1. Wow, what a morning. I came by thinking I had time to visit only one or two blogs before work just to find you’ve offered me an award. And the “most awesome award ever made.” At least that’s what I read somewhere.

Thank you for sharing the love.

Loved your list. #1 is perfectly believable to someone who visited Paris without going to the Eiffel Tower and London without visiting Buckingham Palace. My guess is that #4 is the falsehood. I suspect its a deeply held childhood wish.

Can’t wait to see which it is.

And I’ll pass along the award soon. Thank you.

  2. An award??? For me??? I’m amazed and flattered. Now I have to practice my falsehood abilities! Like you, I’m not much of a liar!

I’m guessing # 2 is the lie. Sorry, Pamela, but Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers are SO cute (and Kristine lives in NS!), so I have to believe that one.

Okay, I’m going to get the kids ready for school, then come up wtih some whoppers!

  3. Well, I want a Duck Toller, too, and have been looking in shelters for a long while, and they aren’t there. So that one has to be true, IF you want one. 🙂 Probably I’d guess #2 – the raging river part makes it suspect. 🙂

  4. I’m going to pray that number 4 is the lie and that you didn’t actually get to meet Sharon, Lois, and Bram…because I would be SUPER jealous if you did! I used to LOVE watching the Elephant Show! Skin-a-marinky dinky-dink skin-a-marinky doo… Ah, brings back childhood memories! And Pup Fan just posted about Reading Rainbow today…it’s a blast from the past! Aww, now I’m feeling nostalgic!

  5. Man, I can tell a lot of you are Canadians :). Never heard of the “Elephant Show” to my loss, I am sure. I agree – #2 is the bald faced lie. Having an irrational fear of cats is believable as well as losing it somewhere along the line – good for Kitty Meister. I never heard of the teen throb trio but I did meet the Lettermen backstage thanks to a girlfriend with chutzpah; Tony signed my photo of them – yes, you may bow.
Have never met a Toller but like what I see and read; I still want another Bloodhound who will stay and not be adopted. I also want another Thoroughbred gelding/mare, a Greyhound and someone to clean my house weekly :).
    Congratulations, Kristine. Cool award.

  6. Congratulations! I think number two is false. You are an awesome blogger and you help me be a better one. I also like our no guilt club! I am a card carrying member now. 🙂

  7. Congratulations on your awardie! You totally and completely deserve it. Um, I’m gonna say #4 is the lie. I’ve never even heard of those peoples.

    Wiggles & Wags,

  8. Congradulations on your award and thank you for the nomination.

You’ve got me stumped. Maybe the cat one, or the raging river crossing. But really it’s all a big guess on this end! Thanks again.

  10. Congratulations on your award Kristine! Well deserved.
I would guess number 2 is false – the raging river story. I can’t imagine that happening and your parents not knowing about it! Everyone knows that mothers have eyes in the back of their heads and know all things.

I knew someone with a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. The dog had three legs and was a therapy dog in a class of disabled children. Hope you find one at a shelter or rescue group soon.

  11. Thanks so much for thinking of me! That’s awfully sweet of you, and I appreciate it a great deal.

Now, for the lie, I’m picking #1. Can’t wait to find out the truth 🙂

  12. Aww, thanks for choosing me! I’m so excited, I’m going to go and post right now! I’m NOT going to guess what your truth was, because I already read today’s post and I know the answer. 😉

  14. Wow. The river thing would have terrified me beyond belief! I understand the fear of cats. My brother has the same thing. He was attacked by the neighbor’s cat as a child and it stuck with him.

I’ve always wanted to visit Stonehenge – maybe someday. Funny that it was the one untruth.

I have no idea who Sharon, Lois and Bram are, but the video I saw on PupLove’s site reminded me of Mr. Rogers. Things were so much simpler when we were kids weren’t they? 🙂
