Blogiversaries, Link Love, and a Special Giveaway!

Rather than a normal post, in honour of my blogiversary, I thought I would share with you a little story…

A long time ago, in this one wild life, two streets over from Fort Doberdale, just a girl and her dog were feeling beachie. It’s a Spring Thing. After a bowl of noodles while reading the Paw Print City Times, the hound girl and just another dog were ready to brave the thundering herd at the bark park. According to Gus, there were queer skies ahead. The perfect time to go scratching and sniffing like two pitties in the city.

So fido and wino headed out the door and into the sunshine. Twenty-six to life, thought the accidental Olympian, as she remembered her earlier frame of mind. Will my dog hate me if we head to Peggy’s Pet Place to work on some Ruff Toy reviews instead? No dog about it, she decided to turn back toward Critter Alley. After all, the dogs are really in charge. Now that is some serious pup love.

With three woofs and a woo, the active dog and the dog blessed went running with kona in the direction of the park.

Oh My Dog!” cried the dog foster mom. “Something wagging this way comes.”

Sure enough, a poode and a pit bull jumped off the back alley soapboax and headed straight for family and fur. Pawcurious, tales and tails moved forward to say hello. The two new dogs were very doggie stylish, just as pretty as the two little cavaliers they had met last week. Brown dog  felt like a tiny little dog in comparison.

Ohmidog!” they heard another voice exclaim. It was as if the sky was falling.

Several little dogs on long leashes appeared from around the corner. The woman at the other end of the leash wore a name-tag that read Sara. There were now over 24 paws of love sharing the small sidewalk, yet I still want more puppies.

Off the fur-licity road-dog-taled-it down the street  to the barkn’ about park. It was more exciting than the famous Adventures of a Cattle Dog, just a whole bunch of love on a six-foot leash. Beyond love-a-bull. Proof that Dog is God in reverse. At the park, leashes un-clipped, the one girl and too many animals and grrl+dog, stood back. They both believed dogs deserve freedom.

If the original doggies and stuff weren’t enough fun, they were soon surrounded by many others. Mayzie, Mango and Dexter, Eva the Sheltie, and Marge. There was Kolchak Puggle, Mister Rugby Sevens, and West wrestling with the little dog by the grove. There was a flying dingo and a reactive champion getting the grand tour from Koda. Ryker, Johann, and Kenzo, hung out near the beach, showing off their impressive tricks. The graceful greyhounds danced by the sea and proved that yes, greyhounds CAN sit. Even Riley and James were there, and they don’t leave Stumpy’s daily dose of dirtville all that often. It was truly dazzling how well everyone got along, including the fearful dogs. One big happy kginspiration. Success just clicks!

Just like a Trude Rllingsen photograph.

Unfortunately, like all good things, the dog eared fun eventually had to end. There were cats to chase and new trees to pee on. Slowly the walkalong paws drifted home, humans in tow.

“What a great day,” said the girl, glad she had decided to blow off work. Looking down at just a pup by her side, she smiled softly. “You are truly the champion of my heart.”

And they all lived ridiculously ever after.

 **

I didn’t say it was a good story. Never fear, there is a point to all this. Remember the awesome t-shirts from Jus Anamalium Culture Apparel? The ones that look like the photo below and part of the sales are being donated to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue?

It is now your chance to win! Yay! *happy dance*

The rules are fairly simple.

1. Click on one of the blogs I have linked to in my story above. It should be a blog you have never read before, or at least haven’t checked out in a long time. I’ll trust you.

2. Come back here and post a comment stating something you have learned from the blog you visited. It can be anything. The name of the dog, the town they live in, whatever. It just has to be something you didn’t know before from a blog you haven’t been to before.

3. You can do this as many times as you like, each new blog you visit will be a separate entry.

4. Make new friends!

Is that simple or what? If you are one of those dedicated readers who have already read every single blog I have linked to, then feel free to go out and find a new blog on your own. It doesn’t even have to be pet-related. Just make sure to share the link in your comment so we can all join in on the fun.

The contest will end on midnight, April 3rd. Once I have all the entries, I will run one of those nifty randomizer things to pick a winner.

Have fun and good luck! Thanks so much for helping me celebrate!

  1. First of all, happy blogiversary, Kristine 🙂

What a great idea for a post, and I think you’ve done really well to include so many of us whilst still producing a remarkably coherent story.
I’ll have to bookmark your post for one of those days when I’m looking for new dog blogs and can’t find any.

I’ve just visited pretty Daisy at http://fur-licity.blogspot.com/ and found out that it’s election time in Canada and the polls are all over the place. Confusion, confusion and more confusion, plus a drop of dissapointment – I know exactly how Daisy’s voter feels! 🙂

I’m off to check out other links. xx

What a great idea to introduce people to new blogs.

  5. Ok first of all that is the best way to run a contest, I love it and would have never thought about it! Ive been reading your blog for some time and we are dedicated to several of the blogs listed but the one that stuck out to me was “love and a six foot leash”. We are still new to the pit bull world and we are constantly learning and being educated by those sweet pitties constantly here in blog land. I think about half of the blogs I now follow are pittie blogs 🙂 This blog really inspired me to stop using my iphone for pictures and get back to taking pictures with my dslr camera… yeah I get lazy 🙂

ps. thank you so much for mentioning Hound Girl in your list 🙂

  6. Ummm…. couldn’t ” went running with kona in the direction of the park” be “went running with kona in the direction of the dog park? 😦

Let’s count how many requests like that you get! 🙂

And Trude in Orange County takes lovely pictures! For once a contest where delivery to Canada is an option! 🙂

      • Oh THERE it is!!! I must have read it three times, and didn’t see it because “the bark park” is the URL and “The Dog Park” is the blog name! (thedogpark.wordpress etc being taken, of course, by someone who DOESN’T USE IT.)

Well, you should know by now that my brain is fuzzy and useless and never awake before noon! Now I shall take this opportunity for a second entry by saying Ginko of Champion of my Heart actually looks like Shiva! 🙂

I also realise I’ve been rude and not thanked you for including us on your link love. THANK YOU MS T! xox

  28. Next is Fealing Beachie. I envy her that she says she MUST exercise in the mornings to start her day. Boy, I wish I could say that. I can’t seem to find the energy to exercise at all, let alone every morning. I used to do that before my wedding but once the wedding was over I was totally burned out. This girl loves her sleep!

  30. I love Paw Print City Times blog design. So cute! I really connected with her story of not noticing her cat Weeble’s dew claw had grown into her foot. We try so hard to notice everything and take care of our pets at all times, but sometimes things slip through the cracks or we don’t notice something. We can’t be supermoms all the time. I hope Weeble comes through it happily and healthily. She goes to the vet tomorrow.

  35. I am so jealous of the creator of The Dog Park blog – she lives a seven minute walk away from a dog park! That would be the perfect location and I know my Jackson would get a lot more trips if we lived closer. A little sad, though, that Pit Bulls are not even allowed in her park. Bad reputation strikes again! Anyway, I love the idea of blogging about experiences at the dog park!
