Since tomorrow is Blog the Change (and Shiva’s “birthday”) I thought I would get up extra early this morning to film our usual goofy video of the week.
Even if you have only stopped by this space, you probably know that agility weave poles are my absolute least favourite thing to train. For the last year and a half it has been a huge effort to even think about doing it. Like dogs, we humans do what is reinforcing and weave pole training is just not all that rewarding for me. Shiva hates to collect, for one. And she would rather knock everything over than thoughtfully move around the poles. “Less thinking, more running” I can almost hear her say. Shiva is not an overly vocal dog but she often barks at me while we practice the bloody weaves. It’s frustrating.
However, I am determined to get it right one day. She will go through twelve poles perfectly. Oh yes, she will.
I just want to say a few things before you judge. I filmed this right after our walk this morning, Shiva’s normal veg-out time. This type of lazy training is not something I practice all the time. I was trying to make it more fun for the both of us. Also, Shiva seemed to think I had scattered treats all over the couch. The camera looked like a giant cookie to her and she couldn’t stop sniffing at it. Don’t ask me what goes on in this dog’s head.
Hopefully, we at least gave you a laugh! After months of classes and workshops, I’ve come to realize, as long as Shiva is entertaining, we have done our jobs.
Teehee!! What a sweetie Shiva is!!
I KNOW both of you will be able to achieve 12 weave poles one day and will be here to cheer you on!

Well I wouldn’t be complaining about those lovely weave entries!

Oh boy…I laughed out loud a few times during that video! Especially when she was sniffing the camera and when she knocked the poles over. Hehe! She did pretty dang good though weaving through all four of them!

That was really great! With all your talk, I was expecting her to not do it at all, but she was awesome!! Quit being so hard on yourself!

I can’t see the vid. It’s this new format of your blog that seems to have taken over my iPad 😦
But HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHIVA! I hope you get lots of goodies and don’t have to weave any poles tomorrow. Big hugs xox

I swear, I do not have a new format. Maybe your iPad just doesn’t like me? That could be it. I have been blackballed by technology before.
Thanks for the wishes! I will pass them on. 🙂

Hee hee! Weave poles have always seemed tricky to me! I don’t know if you’ve ever seen Never Say Never Greyhound on blogger, but she’s trying to teach her new dog weave poles and having one heck of a time, too! You might enjoy her videos.

You have your own poles! That is so cool. Shiva looks like she is having fun and how she kind of ‘kissed’ the camera at the beginning was really cute. 🙂

I agree with Shauna that Shiva looks awesome rocking those poles. She has got so much energy, that one! 🙂

As a completely self-absorbed blogger, I just want to say that I already have a post on my blog titled Nemesis. (It was also the title of a Star Trek movie, so we’re both plagiarists.)
It’s always good to have goals. One day you will post the video of Shiva doing a perfect weave, and the planet will tilt on its axis with the sound of your fans’ cheers! 🙂
