Phoning it In

Shiva and I are in recovery mode after a nutty weekend ending with more agility madness. I hope to have another video out to you soon. But for now all I want to do is sleep and then sleep some more. Given that I am not a dog, this will probably not be possible.

To make up for my utter lack of creativity this morning, I will share some of my favourite links. They are all worth checking out, if you have a chance. And I promise you none of these writers are just whining about how tired they are.

Kenzo the Hovawart shares seven of his best posts. Considering he has written on many vital topics over the last year, from BSL to dog fighting, you know every one is a winner.

– The inspirational Brené Brown interviewed Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project. I am always blown away when I learn people like Ms. Rubin, who seem to have it so together, struggle with some of the same things I do.

– If you haven’t been following Doggie Stylish’s Dexter Files, you are missing out on some serious Vizsla puppy cuteness.

Champion of My Heart posted an interesting training challenge that has given me pause. Is it dangerous to turn a dog’s natural calming signals into a fun trick?

– I love this idea and wish I had thought of it myself. Donna and the Dogs has put together a list of criteria for pet stores. A rating system like the one she proposes may help raise awareness in the public about the plight of animals living in these commercial conditions. The more people that pay attention, hopefully the more pet stores will make positive changes.

– Because I know we can all relate a little too well, this post by Kahuna’s K9s had me laughing out loud. The judgment, it is annoying.

– Here is a great DIY leash project from the always-entertaining Kol’s Notes. With Shiva’s recent track record, I may have to try this myself.

To bed, to bed, to bed…

  1. I know how you feel about needing sleep… ugh. Ive been having to get up at 4:45am on the weekends to give fred his anti siezure medicine. All I want to do is sleep for days!!!

I checked out the DIY leash link… Ive made some of my own with heavy duty rope before and they were pretty sturdy but I was always nervous they will break or something with Freds crazy ass on the end of the leash lol. I do like the way they did their knots on it.

    Get some rest!

    • Yikes, 4:45 is nasty! It definitely is a time of day that shouldn’t exist. You are such a dedicated dog mom. Fred doesn’t know how good he has it. 😉

I’ve never tried anything like that before. Mostly because I am so completely UN-crafty. But it looks easy enough. Since Shiva has picked up this collar/leash destroying habit it may be worth a go.

      Thanks, you too!

    • I am so sorry to hear about your mother. That’s rough. It’s hard to see value in anything else but wishing her better. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts. I hope she recovers.

    • Thanks! I will do my best to go to bed earlier tonight! At least Shiva seems to be almost as sleepy as I am. That’s a huge bonus.

  2. Thanks for linking to us! Flattery-city!

I enjoyed reading Champion of My Heart’s blog post, so thank you for sharing that! Behavior Adjustment Training teaches dogs to use calming signals (so does Click to Calm, as the author and some readers mentioned) so it’s interesting to read everyone’s input.

I love your blog and look forward to reading more! – e

    • Thank you so much! And thanks for writing such a great post. I’ve written on the subject a lot myself but never in such a humourous way!

  3. Hi! Thanks for mentioning me in your post. Just wanted you to know that it is actually Suffolk County Legislator Jon Cooper who is putting together a rating system for pet stores in our County. He had asked for specific ideas for criteria to be rated, and my list was just the ideas I submitted to him for him consideration. It does sound like it will be a good idea, and I can’t wait to read about his system will work once he proposes it to the County.

    • I saw that but I guess I thought you were submitting your ideas to him as a proposal for a rating system. I guess it doesn’t matter who came up with the idea, as long as it gets implemented. Hopefully the idea will catch on!

  4. I want to know about the agility trial, too; however, as a night shift person, I completely understand the need for more and more sleep! Really liked perusing the links; have some rope to make leashes of ala Kol – thanks for the directions! Dexter is too cute…blessings to Jersey; the photo of her reaction to his being in her bowl is priceless. We have two pet stores in town: one is Petco, the other is my friend’s all natural, USA store. Both pass the tests :).

    • Right on, good to know your local shops pass the test. There are a ridiculous number of pet stores here. While most of them are awesome, there are a few I will not enter.

Thanks for stopping by! I promise to attempt to be interesting tomorrow. I hope you had a great weekend as well!

  5. Hi there, Shiva and Shiva’s mom! It’s me! Mayzie! Remember me? I’m back in Blogville and I’ve missed you all SO much!

I can’t wait to hear abouts your weekend but I’m super excited to look at those linkies you put up. I hope you got to take some quick nappies today. I think humans would be SO much happier with more naps.

    Wiggles & Wags,

  6. For someone “phoning it in” you sure shared. Bunch of great stuff! Thanks so much for the shout out. We’re a day late because well…we were phoning it in yesterday as well. We put up the worlds laziest post – a “You had me at Woof” post. Nothing like a blog you can think of, type & publish in under a minute eh!

Can’t wait to hear how the agility went!
