Muted Monday

Are you as tired as I am?

It was one of those weekends after which I find myself almost looking forward to the work week so I can relax.  We accomplished a lot, Shiva and I, and we made a lot of memories. She even almost completed a perfect handstand! After all these months of laziness I hope I will now be inspired to get my act together. We’re not going to win any more trick contests unless I do.

One of the things I am most proud of is the fact that I wasn’t afraid to make mistakes. That’s probably why I can sit here and feel positive about the future. Even through the haze of exhaustion, I am not angsting over the little mix-ups. I didn’t even count how many bars Shiva knocked. Now that’s progress.

There will be more updates to come on this last weekend’s fun match, don’t worry. (Or do worry, I guess, if that sort of thing doesn’t interest you.) But for now I would like to know what is making you feel proud today.

ETA: I just found out a la Facebook that it is someone’s birthday today. Make sure to stop by Something Wagging This Way Comes to wish her well!

  1. OMG I love that picture, so cute yet so true in most households, ha!
We have been gone for a bit trying to move over to wordpress , we are finally up and running 🙂 Hopefully now you can leave comments – let me know if you cant!

  2. It was so nice of Shiva to lend you her bed since you were obviously too tired to climb up on the couch. 🙂

Since we all know that a tired dog person is a good dog person, you must be terrific! Can’t wait to read more.

    • Heh, that was pretty much it. One moment I was standing, the next the dog’s bed was looking mighty comfortable. I had no intention of falling asleep! I would have been angrier with my PH for taking the photo if it didn’t work so well for a blog post. 😛

  3. We had an exhausting weekend too, but we accomplished what we needed to, well almost everything!
I love your sleeping arrangements with Shiva 🙂

    • Right on! It’s hard to feel too bad about being tired when you have earned it. 🙂

I slept better on her bed for those 30 minutes than I would have sharing the couch with her. Shiva is not an easy dog to sleep with, don’t let that sweet face deceive you. She kicks!

  4. That was me this weekend, too, but I was sleeping on the fold out van seat with Bunny! She was nice enough to share, but man, that bar in the middle was uncomfortable.

I had no idea it was Pamela’s birthday today! Thanks for the heads up!

    • LOL. Dogs are great for snuggling, but I bet Bunny is a lot cuddlier than Shiva. She looks much more polite, for one thing. I am sure Bunny would never purposely kick you in the stomach… 😉

      • Well, Bunny believes the king-size bed we have was made for just her and me, so I never get kicked, but hubby claims to have bruises from her trying to push him off in the middle of the night. I don’t believe it, though!

  5. The dogs have agreed that the picture represents the hierarchy that should exist in all homes and especially this one.

Why are you making my life more difficult? 🙂

    • Let me say, this is not our usual sleeping arrangements. Normally Shiva would be taking up much more space on the couch and I would be curled in a tiny corner. 😛

We did originally start with a no dogs on the furniture rule. I just wish I could remember the last time it was implemented.

  6. I had a laaazy weekend, but stil feel tired! Darned if you do AND if you don’t.

And handstand, though? Wow, Shiva! We’re working on having Elka stand on her hind legs, currently. We love tricks!

    • We’ve been working on this trick for months now. Months and months. At least since April or May. We got pretty far, all but completed, and then summer happened and I stopped working with her almost entirely. Now the cooler weather has returned I hope my motivation will as well. I am determined to complete the trick before the end of the year. Maybe.

Tricks are awesome. I miss the days we had so many easy ones to learn together. Now it seems they all require multiple steps and a greater amount of patience. A reason to get a new dog, I guess. I’d love to teach roll over again!

      • I’m also working on “play dead” (though that won’t be the cue for it). Who knew it was so hard to incite a dog to go onto his or her side? Not this guy!

  7. What a great picture! And, yay for Shiva and her handstand. That’s awesome!

I’ve just discovered your blog and am looking forward to getting to know you and Shiva better. Wonderful blog! 🙂

Thanks for coming by. I am looking forward to getting to know you as well!

  8. Good for you about the tricks and all. You’d certainly be nowhere if you weren’t brave enough to make mistakes. I’m sure someone wise said something profound about that, but I’m too tired to think of it!

    • Shiva doesn’t sleep so sweetly if we were actually sharing the couch, trust me. She is a dog who likes her space! I have the bruises to prove it.

Hence why she has her own tent. 😉

  9. A picture says a thousand words. I think that describes this picture!

Can relate to your exhausting weekend. Wish we had been learning tricks or trying out agility instead. All I can say is I am looking forward to the videos!

Thank you for the heads up Kristine.

BTW – I have not done anything on Kol’s K9 Camp this week. Augh!

  10. Glad Shiva has you trained well and you know your place – in the dog bed:) LOL

Life is about the good and the bad times. Without the bad you wouldn’t notice the good times so much. The trick as you’ve learned this weekend is to go with the flow. Enjoy every moment and laugh:)
