A Little Holiday Music and Your Final Chance to Win Money, Money, Money!

As a rule, I am not typically a fan of parodies or puns. But around the holidays, I can make an exception. When I read a recent blog post on Something Wagging This Way Comes in which the author re-wrote the lyrics to a popular holiday tune, the gears in my brain – rusty may they be – shifted into action.

Full confession: I love holiday music. The cheesier the better. It’s yet one more secret shame. Having been a choral singer for twelve years, I pride myself on knowing most of the lyrics to most of the verses to most of the songs. After all this time, and all that public entertaining, I definitely have my favourites. It was easy to decide on the song I wanted to re-cast, canine-style.

To the tune of “Sleigh Ride” by composer Leroy Anderson, ripping off lyrics by Mitchell Parish, here is my doggy holiday song:

Just hear those collar tags jingling,
Ring-ting-tingling too,
Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a walk in the park with you

Outside the birds are flying
And hounds are baying, “Woo Woo”,
Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a walk in the park with you

Sniff sniff sniff, tug tug tug, woof woof woof
Let’s run, let’s have some fun
Can’t wait to play out in the sun
Bark bark bark, sniff sniff sniff, tug tug tug
It’s great, getting out of that crate
Other dogs are fetching and I don’t want to be late

Our eyes are bright and shining
And lightly sighing are we,
We’re jumping around together
Like two puppies in heather would be,

Let’s take this path before us,
And howl a chorus or two
Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a walk in the park with you.

There’s a zoomie game going on down at the quay,
It’ll be the perfect ending to a perfect day,
We’ll be chasing the dogs we love to chase without a single stop,
At the lakeside while we watch the sticks go plop. Plop! Plop! Plop!

There’s a happy feeling
Nothing in the world can beat
When you pull liver from your pocket and it’s time to eat
I can’t stop myself from dancing on your feet
These wonderful things are the things even storm clouds can’t defeat

Just hear those collar tags jingling,
Ring-ting-tingling too,
Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a walk in the park with you,
Outside the birds are flying
And hounds are baying, “Woo Woo”,
Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a walk in the park with you.

Think it’ll be a hit?

  1. It’s a hit with me!

Maybe we should start a dog blog community chorus where we all get online to sing some of these great parodies together. With all the power of the internet, there must be some way to do it.

Thanks for the shout out. I’m glad you liked the 12 Days of Christmas even if you don’t normally like puns or parodies (gasp!).

  2. That’s awesome Kristine! I also love holiday music, so this post and Pamela’s resonates with me. I have to say I am quite impressed with your rendition. I am not that clever, but maybe I’ll give it a try. 🙂

  3. It is very easy to learn-just sign up and get points. Do the daily tasks, play games and get points. Join their Facebook group and learn what searches will get you points, and what the easy tasks are. You can take surveys and get a lot of points at once. Lots of fun and I earn $25 a month in Amazon gift cards with very little effort.

  4. Hi Kristine, it’s a hit with me too. Any chance that you could post an audio file to this blog of you singing the song? After all, you are a singer 🙂 and it is Christmas 🙂 And Shiva would like it too. (No pressure if you don’t want to right now).

  6. 🙂 You’re so great at matching words to a melody. That was great. Loved the ‘plop plop plop!’ Ha ha ha.

You always have had a way with words. But you should love puns. They’re so punny! 😛

    Miss you sister dearest.
