Less Wordy Wednesday – Water Dog

As much as I love wandering with my dog across frozen lakes, I am happy for the melt that comes with spring. For the first time, I think Shiva is too.

She has never been a water dog. I can’t pretend otherwise. But she surprised me over the weekend by jumping all on her own into the lake at the dog park.

There was no swimming involved, she hasn’t lost her mind. Yet she genuinely seemed to enjoy splashing around in the shallow end, licking rocks and fishing for weeds.

Will this year be the year she jumps off the dock for the first time? I’m excited to find out.

  1. I love these pics! I have a feeling this year may be the year Kristine. Daisy took a while to warm up to it, but now I can’t keep her our when she wants to go in. It’s pretty cool to see them progress to loving it. Go Shiva!

  2. Hey hey that’s big progress!! I always say the best teachers are other dogs. Maybe you gotta have a “Make Shiva a Swimmer” Party with her canine buddies at a pond or something. I wish Wyatt was up there he would tempt her like crazy to go in, it is hard to keep him out of the water any time of year. She will figure it out though, hopefully this will be the year.

  3. Oh, you give me hope. Chewy still won’t put a toenail in the pond…but maybe when he keeps seeing his friends splashing around in there, he’ll finally give it a shot.

  4. If Shiva makes the big dive, maybe there’s hope for Honey too. But I suspect that in her mind, Shiva is saying, “You first, my dear. You first.”

  5. With the enthusiasm that Shiva has for play, I’m sure that she’ll be dock jumping in no time! My Dad has three docks on the lake at his house. I can’t wait to see if Dexter will jump. I have the feeling he will make a cracking dock dog.
