I wanted to do something really special this year to acknowledge the mega awesomeness of pet blogland. For all two years I have been at this thing, you have been full of encouragement. Not only do you keep my shoes out of it, but each one of you has gone out of your way to support my attempts at writing, no matter how lazy or long-winded.
Before I joined this community, blogging was a solo activity. Something I did alone and did not discuss with others. Reaching out from this cave was not easy for me. Though I read a lot of blogs back then, I never once dared to comment. I don’t know what it is I feared because the very first comment I ever wrote (on Fido and Wino, I believe) was received with such kindness and appreciation it blew me away. Apparently once I got started, there was no holding me back!
But, as usual, I digress. While I wanted to do something for you all as a thank you, I also wanted to make it about more than just me hammering away at the keyboard. I wanted to create something in which we call could participate that would also recognize all your hard work. That’s when the idea hit me.
Welcome to Rescued Insanity’s Blogiversary Scavenger Hunt!
The concept is simple: I have listed ten “items” below. Participants will search blogland for websites that match each category. I tried to keep it easy, but it does get more challenging as the categories advance.
1. A dog with blue eyes
2. An orange cat
3. A dog with a job (dog sports like agility don’t count but a dog that visits nursing homes does).
4. A home with more than five pets
5. A dog with a funny hairdo
6. A pet other than a cat or a dog
7. A dog breed you have never heard of before (As people seem to be having trouble with this one I am totally okay if mixed breeds are included. As always creativity is more than welcome!)
8. A pet rescued from a shelter or other organization
9. A blog you have never read before
10. A pet you secretly wish was yours
Basic rules: Entries do not have to be pet blogs. Participants will receive one entry pet category they enter. For example, if you go out and find blogs for categories 1, 5, 6, and 8, you will receive four entries. You can only enter each category once. I will accept any and all creative responses. It’s supposed to be fun! Not make your brain hurt. The contest will be open until midnight whatever time on April 1st On Monday April 2nd I will create a linky post showcasing all responses and announcing the prize winners!
How to Enter: Send an email to email@example.com with your answers. Please indicate the category of each entry in your email, just to keep it easier for me. You don’t have to provide the actual blog link if you don’t want, just the blog title will do. Prize winners will be drawn randomly from all entries. So the more entries you have, the more chances you have to win!
Prizes: Last week you were all very helpful when voicing your opinions. Nonetheless, I still couldn’t make up my mind. Which works out pretty good for you because rather than just giving away one big prize, I’ve decided to give away three! That’s right, you’ll have three chances to win!
First Prize: $25.00 Gift Certificate for Sirius Republic! Remember Shiva’s fancy shamrock collar? This is the place to get one for your dog. They come in multiple colours and designs that are sure to get attention at the dog park. If you’re all collared out they also have many other dog-related products, such as these satin bow ties. The best part? Sirius Republic not only donates their handmade products but they also give a portion of all proceeds to partnered rescue organizations.
Second Prize: $25.00 Gift Certificate for The Animal Rescue Site! I am kind of addicted to “window” shopping on this site. There are just so many cute purple accessories (like these shoes) to choose from and every purchase feeds shelter animals! How can one go wrong?
Third Prize: A t-shirt from Jusani Culture! I still love these shirts. Love, love, love. I am surprised I only own one. After giving one away in last year’s blogiversary contest, I couldn’t resist the tempatation to do it again. They are cute, they are cozy, and just one purchase can save up to five shelter animals. It’s a shirt you can feel good in and about!
Sound good? If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments. Happy hunting!
