Rescued Insanity’s Blogiversary Scavenger Hunt!

I wanted to do something really special this year to acknowledge the mega awesomeness of pet blogland. For all two years I have been at this thing, you have been full of encouragement. Not only do you keep my shoes out of it, but each one of you has gone out of your way to support my attempts at writing, no matter how lazy or long-winded.

Before I joined this community, blogging was a solo activity. Something I did alone and did not discuss with others.  Reaching out from this cave was not easy for me. Though I read a lot of blogs back then, I never once dared to comment. I don’t know what it is I feared because the very first comment I ever wrote (on Fido and Wino, I believe) was received with such kindness and appreciation it blew me away. Apparently once I got started, there was no holding me back!

But, as usual, I digress. While I wanted to do something for you all as a thank you, I also wanted to make it about more than just me hammering away at the keyboard. I wanted to create something in which we call could participate that would also recognize all your hard work. That’s when the idea hit me.

Welcome to Rescued Insanity’s Blogiversary Scavenger Hunt!

The concept is simple: I have listed ten “items” below. Participants will search blogland for websites that match each category. I tried to keep it easy, but it does get more challenging as the categories advance.

1. A dog with blue eyes

2. An orange cat

3. A dog with a job (dog sports like agility don’t count but a dog that visits nursing homes does).

4. A home with more than five pets

5. A dog with a funny hairdo

6. A pet other than a cat or a dog

7. A dog breed you have never heard of before (As people seem to be having trouble with this one I am totally okay if mixed breeds are included. As always creativity is more than welcome!)

8. A pet rescued from a shelter or other organization

9. A blog you have never read before

10. A pet you secretly wish was yours

Basic rules: Entries do not have to be pet blogs. Participants will receive one entry pet category they enter. For example, if you go out and find blogs for categories 1, 5, 6, and 8, you will receive four entries. You can only enter each category once. I will accept any and all creative responses. It’s supposed to be fun! Not make your brain hurt.  The contest will be open until midnight whatever time on April 1st On Monday April 2nd I will create a linky post showcasing all responses and announcing the prize winners!

How to Enter: Send an email to with your answers. Please indicate the category of each entry in your email, just to keep it easier for me. You don’t have to provide the actual blog link if you don’t want, just the blog title will do. Prize winners will be drawn randomly from all entries. So the more entries you have, the more chances you have to win!

Prizes:  Last week you were all very helpful when voicing your opinions. Nonetheless, I still couldn’t make up my mind. Which works out pretty good for you because rather than just giving away one big prize, I’ve decided to give away three! That’s right, you’ll have three chances to win!

First Prize: $25.00 Gift Certificate for Sirius Republic! Remember Shiva’s fancy shamrock collar? This is the place to get one for your dog. They come in multiple colours and designs that are sure to get attention at the dog park. If you’re all collared out they also have many other dog-related products, such as these satin bow ties. The best part? Sirius Republic not only donates their handmade products but they also give a portion of all proceeds to partnered rescue organizations.

Second Prize: $25.00 Gift Certificate for The Animal Rescue Site! I am kind of addicted to “window” shopping on this site. There are just so many cute purple accessories (like these shoes) to choose from and every purchase feeds shelter animals! How can one go wrong?

Third Prize: A t-shirt from Jusani Culture! I still love these shirts. Love, love, love. I am surprised I only own one. After giving one away in last year’s blogiversary contest, I couldn’t resist the tempatation to do it again. They are cute, they are cozy, and just one purchase can save up to five shelter animals.  It’s a shirt you can feel good in and about!

Sound good? If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments. Happy hunting!

  1. Happy Blogiversary! We have enjoyed following your blog and share many of the same stories and experiences … nice to know that we are not alone in rescuing these crazy but wonderful pups 🙂

    • Thanks! It is so nice to feel like part of a huge international community. I wish I’d started blogging a lot sooner now.

  2. Dang it, Kristine! You’ve already pushed me towards retail therapy with those links! Curses! Now I have to play! Does it count if your blog fits the bill for one of the questions, or do you have to find another one?

    • Mwahahaha. It’s all part of my master plan. If I am going to go broke buying doggie merchandise, we all are! 😉

You can use my blog, or even your own, for one of the categories if you like. But only one. 😉 Thanks for playing along!

  3. Sounds like fun! I’ll have to play even though I don’t expect you to send anything so far away. I know at least, at least!… one? Answer! ;p

Happy blogiversary Ms Tonks and Shiva 🙂 x

    • I will absolutely be willing to send something your way. Being from the Great White North I know how it is to be excluded and I’d never leave out my Australian friends! Thank you so much for participating! Yours was the vert first email I received. 🙂

    • Thanks! I think it is March 31st, but I wanted to give people time. Since I probably won’t actually get to it over the weekend, I should make the contest open until Sunday evening. The actual date doesn’t matter too much, right?

  4. What a great way to celebrate! I had no idea how you were gong to top last year’s, but this looks like fun (and now I regret not planning something spectacular for mine. Dang it!!) Wishing you a wonderful and happy Blogoversary! Here’s to another twelve months of Shiva-tastic posts!

    • I am hoping so! I wanted to do something different anyway. Last year’s typing spree still makes my wrists ache. 😉

  5. Happy Blogiversary Kristine!! I love, love, love this idea. Trust you to come up with something so creative and clever!!

This is going to be such fun!

    • Ack! You were right! Your comments were going to my spam folder. Dang Akismet. *shakes fist* But I re-approved you now and hopefully this won’t happen again. I am so sorry for all the trouble!

  7. First, congratulations on your Blog-o-versary. It’s wonderful that you have been at this two years already Kristine. I feel like I’ve known you longer than that!

Second, waaaayyyyy cool contest! I’m off to work now, but you better believe my competitive side will be back and it will be to win! You hear that Pamela? 🙂

    Have an awesome day!

  8. What a fantastic idea, Kristine! I can’t wait to get started. =)

I love reading your blog – your adventures with Shiva and the things you’ve been able to train her are amazing. Happy Blogaversary … two years is quite an accomplishment and the pet blogosphere wouldn’t be the same without you!

I missed the scavenger hunt. 😦 My computer bit the dust and I couldn’t keep up with my blog reading this past weekend. I still can’t wait to read all the responses though.

  13. Congratulation ahead, I’m glad to be part of your wonderful blog and expecting something more from your blog…

  14. It’s nice to be part of this blog post, it was truly interesting and wanted to share with my lovely friends…

  15. One other issue is that if you are in a predicament where
you do not possess a co-signer then you may want to try
to make use of all of your money for college options.
You can get many grants or loans and other scholarships that will offer you finances that can help with
classes expenses. Thanks alot : ) for the post.
