Does Your Dog Have a Theme Song?

It’s Friday and the beginning of a four-day weekend for us here at the House of Insanity so I am feeling pretty free and easy. I figured it was the perfect time for a fluffy reader-participation post. What better?

Good Friday is for playing with new Berner friends on the beach. Right?

Earlier in the week a Facebook friend posted this question and I have been ruminating over it ever since. If your dog had a theme song, what would it be?

I’ve thought about it and thought about it and I have yet to come up with a satisfactory answer. There are just so many choices! And so many facets of crazy.

In the past, my PH and I have often jokingly sung “Where’s Your Head At” by Basement Jaxx while Shiva runs directly into trees or catapults herself from the front door to the top of the stairs. Common sense is not her strong point. Heck, thinking isn’t her strong point. Maybe she feels she had to do enough of that during her time as a stray. I am pretty sure she left her brain at the shelter and never looked back.

Another song that often comes into my head is “There She Goes” by The La’s. Yes, it’s probably about drugs. But every time Shiva runs off the agility course or leaves me to nosh on birdseed, I can hear this song playing. The rest of the lyrics aren’t inaccurate either.

Or, perhaps it would be more appropriate to use a song from Shiva’s celebrity Doppelganger, Joan Jett. “Bad Reputation” might be it. Shiva’s never been afraid of any deviation, that’s for sure!

The fourth option I came up with is one of my favourite confidence-boosting songs. “When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down” by Great Big Sea is always fun and suits Shiva’s plucky personality. Nothing gets this dog down, not even our grumpy cat can put her in a bad mood.

What do you think? Does your dog have a theme song?

  1. Ha-ha! Love Shiva’s songs!

Of course my dogs have them songs, and it’s nice to know that I am not the only one who thinks along these lines:)
Leroy’s song is of course, “Bad Bad Leroy Brown”, but also “Imma a Bee”by the Black Eyed Peas and “Trouble” by PINK. Sherman has one song, “Wonder” by Natalie Merchant:)

  2. Nola’s would defiantly be Bad Reputation -Joan Jett, Lola-The Kinks, Crazy Girl-Can’t remember that band’s name and one line that always reminds me of her is “she gets what she wants and doesn’t quit, she might as well get paid for it” LOL

  3. Moses and Alma both now have songs I can’t hear without thinking of them – complete result in using them in YouTube videos.

Alma’s is definitely ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig/Dragonette. And I can’t hear Party Rock by LMFAO without thinking of Moses walking (shufflin’) again after surgery.

Though, I really think the tone of most Johnny Cash really suits Moses’ general vibe on a day-to-day basis.

  4. I always think of Bunny when I hear “The Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine. “I’m Blue” by Eiffel 65 makes me think of Blueberry. “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC is one that makes me think of Morgan for some reason, too. Kuster doesn’t have one yet, but after yesterday, maybe it should be “Smooth Criminal!” 😛

  5. LOL those all sound pretty appropriate for the Shivster! Dante’s would have to be something sung by Joseph Gordon Levitt, since that’s the voice I always imagine for him. 🙂 Hope you have a lovely long weekend! (I’m jealous!)

    • WOW! There is someone else on this planet who knows that song! 🙂

Riley Jane’s theme songs are “I’m Sexy and I Know it” by LMFAO (I think) and “You Must Love Me” from Evita.

Remus’s is definently “Baby Baby” by Amy Grant. 🙂

  6. Kita’s would definately be – Wake me up before you go-go. She is one laid back girl.
I think Shiva’s should be The Dance. The one line in the lyrics
” I could have missed the pain – but I would have to miss the dance”
To me it describes her prefectly and the strides you have made with this charming little pup

  8. Love Shiva’s songs! Bella’s songs are more like snippets… she tends to dance around when I sing “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” (of course, in our house, the words are “Peanut Butter Bella Time”), so that one always makes me think of her.

Also, do you remember the song that used to accompany Odie in the Garfield animated cartoons? I can’t do it justice in print and I can’t find a clip of it, but that also reminds me of Bella.
